{"id":2014,"date":"2020-10-17T01:21:06","date_gmt":"2020-10-17T01:21:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.imadscotlandgroup.com\/media\/?p=2014"},"modified":"2021-12-17T03:19:36","modified_gmt":"2021-12-17T03:19:36","slug":"first-minister-statement-on-eu-and-uk-government-talks","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.imadscotlandgroup.com\/media\/first-minister-statement-on-eu-and-uk-government-talks\/","title":{"rendered":"First Minister Statement on EU and UK Government talks"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Statement on EU and UK Government talks by First Minister Nicola Sturgeon<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Commenting on the EU and UK Government talks, First Minister Nicola Sturgeon said:<\/p>\n<p>    It is beyond belief that in the midst of a global pandemic and deep recession the Prime Minister is telling Scotland to get ready for a disastrous No Deal Brexit.<\/p>\n<p>    \u201cWith less than three months until the end of the transition period, businesses and people across Scotland will be in despair at this extraordinary statement.<\/p>\n<p>    \u201cAt best this is reckless brinkmanship. At worst it means the UK Government is now actively pursuing a No Deal outcome.<\/p>\n<p>    \u201cThe reality is Scotland\u2019s economy is going to be damaged by a further needless hit to jobs at the worst possible time, with either a thin trade deal or no deal now the only possible outcomes.<\/p>\n<p>    \u201cA completely unnecessary Brexit shock will hit many businesses already struggling with the Covid-19 crisis.<\/p>\n<p>    \u201cA No Deal outcome would be particularly disastrous. Scotland could see heavy tariffs on goods, which for some sectors would be crippling.<\/p>\n<p>    \u201cBecause of the hard-line Brexit position adopted by the UK Government any outcome is going to be damaging, but a No Deal will mean the biggest hit to jobs.
